Crochet Santa Hat

Crochet hook
(baby- G hook, child- H hook, adult- I hook)
Medium,
worsted weight yarn (red, yellow and black)
Festive Yarn
of your choice (silver)

Single
Crochet (insert hook from front to back, yo, draw up a loop, yo, pull through
both loops on hook)
Double
Crochet (yo, insert hook from front to back, yo, draw up a loop, yo, pull
through first 2 loops on hook, yo, pull through both loops on hook)
Double Crochet
Two Stitches Together (yo, insert hook from front to back, yo, draw up a loop,
insert hook in next stitch from front to back, yo, draw up a loop, yo, pull
through first 3 loops, yo, pull through both loops on hook)
Front Post
Single Crochet (yo, insert hook from right to left around the front of the post
of the stitch below, yo, draw up a loop, yo, pull through both loops on
hook)

Stitch (st)
Pattern: Begin using red yarn. Start with magic circle OR ch 4 and
join with a sl st to form a ring.
Ch 2, dc 11
times in ring.
Round 1: ch 2. Dc in same st. 2 dc in each st
around. Join with a sl st at the top of ch 2.
Round 2: ch 2. Dc in same st. *Dc, 2 dc in
next st.* Repeat around. Join with a sl st at the top of ch 2.
Round 3: ch 2. Dc in same st. *Dc in next 2
sts, 2 dc in next st.* Repeat around. Join with sl st at the top of ch 2.
Round 4: ch 2, dc in same st. *Dc in next 3
sts, 2 dc in next st.* Repeat around. Join with sl st at the top of ch 2.
Rounds 5-11: ch 2, dc in each st around. Join with
sl st at the top of ch 2.
(Switch to
black yarn)
Rounds 12-14: ch 2, dc in each st around. Join
with sl st at the top of ch 2.
(Switch to
red yarn)
Rounds 15 & 16: ch 2, dc in each st around. Join
with sl st at the top of ch 2.
Fasten off.
Earflaps:
Lay the hat
down folded in half. Find the very edge stitch on the right side and count back
6 stitches. This is where you will join your yarn.
Row 1: join with sl st. ch 2. dc in next 11
sts. Turn.
Row 2: ch 2. Dc2tog over the next 2 sts. Dc
in next 6 sts. Dc2tog. Dc in last st. Turn.
Row 3: ch 2. Dc 2tog. Dc in next 4 sts.
Dc2tog. Dc in last st. Turn.
Row 4: ch 2. Dc2tog. Dc in next 2 sts.
Dc2tog. Dc in last st. Turn.
Row 5: ch 2. Dc2tog. Dc in next st. Dc2tog.
Dc in last st. Fasten off.
(Repeat for
the left earflap)
Buckle: (using yellow yarn)
Lay your hat
flat down, front side up with the top of the closest to you. Find the middle
stitch in round 11 (the last red round before the black “belt”). Count back 3
stitches, this is where you will join your yarn, around the front post of this
stitch.
Join with sl
st around front post. Ch 1. Fpsc around this st and the next 7 sts.
Turn your
work 90 degrees counterclockwise. Fpsc across the next 4 sts.
Turn 90
degrees counterclockwise. Fpsc across the next 8 sts.
Turn 90
degrees counter clockwise. Fpsc across next 4 sts.
Join with sl
st to ch 1 space. Fasten off.
Edging: (using silver festive yarn)
Join with a
sl st in any st of your choice. Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Join with a sl st
in the ch 1 space. Fasten off.
Finish: Tuck in all ends with the yarn
needle. You can also add a pom-pom ball to the top of you’d like!
